Little of what we do is photogenic and we don't do it to generate likes and social media follows. Probably just as well really given last weeks woeful update. In a crowded internet space we're never going to shine and we're not going to post pictures of the loco just to crawl up the search engine optimisation lists. Instead, here's a couple of photos of radiator shutters.

We're lucky that EECo. adopted a standard approach to many things and in this case the things are shutters. I think I'm right that all of the mainline locos built by EECo. except (Type 5) Deltics had the same arrangement, albeit some were steel and some aluminium. The OE Baby Deltic ones were steel and we investigated having a load made, they're only pressings but there's a lot of them. Obviously they're all a different length across all the loco types too. In the end we did what we were going to do in the first place and used some we got with the donor loco and some which we got off a scrap Class 20. There are 72 shutters and they've all been blasted and cut down, that was easy because we subbed it out, the tedious bit is in making them look good again. Over the years they've corroded and become damaged so they all need a degree of refinishing. The photos below show an original Class 37 shutter and then four others representing the four stages of refinishing; as received from being blasted and cut down; fine sanding to remove high spots and blasting damage; painted in primer and painted in undercoat.

The lower photo shows the damage from corrosion.

Much of what we do is admin, be it design, actual admin, or, er, having the loco added to the Rolling Stock Library.

Every rail vehicle in the UK which operates (in any form) on the national network has to be certified and has to have a TOPS number and a European Vehicle Number. We now have both numbers and the screenshot below shows 89210 as it appears on TOPS.

The locomotive has been added to the database in non-registered status at this time - pending mainline certification for potential transit movements in the future. We are very grateful to Magellan who manage the R2 database, and particularly to Brent Adams, for their help with this.
