With less than a weeks preparation time to go before the loco leaves Barrow Hill for The Greatest Gathering we've reached the clean and paint stage.
The loco will receive a new coat of undercoat (grey, as now) so it won't look too different from now. Since it was last cleaned a couple of years ago its accumulated a fair covering of dust, some self-generated from filler / rubbing back / grinding filings from adjacent works and some from the site - which is dusty. Help was brought in to clean the loco in the form of 1no. 'daughter' who appears to like this kind of stuff....
Starting with the roof the leak finding solution 'snow foam' cleaner was sprayed on, it did a remarkable job of dragging off all the dust and debris in one hit leaving a surface ready to take paint.
Off site work also continues which the production of headcode disc catches. The catch hinge parts are ex-loco and the catches themselves are fabricated.
Proof that even loco parts like a bit of attention. This happy sub-assembly is for the radiator fan housing - it's a cover for the huge hole in the roof where the fan will be. You won't be able to see it from ground-level but it's as well made and purposeful as all the bits you will be able to see.
